April 26, 2024

Last Monday wasn’t the normal workday for John Bead employees. On the occasion of the 2011 Employee Appreciation Day, we had a casual get together with some activities in the morning at JB. Following this, we were off to the races – An Amazing Race.

Everyone gathered at Polson Pier in Toronto (formerly The Docks) for a fun and sun-filled day of delicious food and friendly competition.   Here, all employees split into four teams (Yellow, Red, White, and Blue) and donned their new team colours.  Next, they were given instructions of how they could win the Amazing Race and earn bragging rights for being the Employee Appreciation Day 2011 winners. Teams were challenged with a rock climbing wall, a joust, obstacle courses, and intellectually challenging puzzles and tasks before they could cross the finish line.  Each member on the winning team was treated to two passes, popcorn, and drinks for a night out at the movies.  Congratulations to the White Team who narrowly beat out the Blue Team in a race for the finish.  Competition next year is sure to be fierce in order to strip the title from White.

While not competing, we enjoyed the amazing weather and relaxed on the patio overlooking Lake Ontario and downtown Toronto.  The people needing to exercise their competitive spirit beyond the Amazing Race participated in ping pong and pool games.

The day was a great success and a fabulous opportunity to get to know each other beyond our working relationships and to interact with people that we don`t usually see through the day. We are already looking forward to what Employee Appreciation Day 2012 will bring – only 354 days away!
