If you saw the picture above before you saw the title of this post you might have thought I was still working away with rattail and my circle kumihimo disk.

This necklace was made using the Dazzle-It aluminum wires.

I could not resist trying this idea.  I have the wire.  I have the diskAnd I had a wire work friend over who wanted to give it a whirl.

I have featured Nancy in an earlier post.  She loves aluminum wire and she also really likes viking knit.  But viking knit necklaces take a very long time to make……..

We wanted to see if we could create the look of viking knit…..without committing more than an hour to the project.

The kumihimo disk was not designed to work with wire.  We might have damaged the foam with the wire but the experiment was a good one.  The wires looks so interesting braided.  All I had to do was stretch the braid and many of the wires flattened out.

I used a pretty end cap and an eye pin to finish both edges.

The end cap is pewter by JBB and covered the trim wire perfectly.  I did add a little E600 glue to ensure the end cap would stay in place.  Then I used a magnet for the closure.

Nancy ran one of her wire samples through her viking knit tool board.  It flattened the wires…but the aluminum coloring can be damaged…and some of the colour chipped away.

In the end I have a really interesting necklace to showcase my cameo.  It was easy to make and with the wire, very inexpensive too!  It won’t last a lifetime but I think it will be fun to wear for a season.
