A grateful heart.

Happy Thanksgiving to our American friends.

I decided to create an interesting wire heart for this post.  I pulled out my red 18ga Dazzle-it wire for the project.  18ga wire is very soft and easy to work with.  Your hands are your best tools, but I have the new Olympus-Lite WigJig from John Bead in my studio and I was excited to test it.

As you can see I made a heart and a squiggle shape using the wigjig.  Then I wrapped more wire all along the edges to join these two pieces.

I did want to point out that I made a small error.  See the area highlighted?

The best way to work with soft craft wire is by using nylon pliers.  I had picked up my regular jewellery pliers (which have serrated edges) and they chipped some of the colour off.   Next time I’ll be sure to keep my other pliers out of my reach.  I was very happy with my finished heart!

My next project was an easy one.  I wanted to attach this small crocheted heart to wire.  I made a heart shape to match out of 12 ga purple wire.  I then selected this purple silk thread.

The new Dazzle-It 100% silk threads are available in so many colours.  You’ll love it for bead work, pearl knotting, stringing, glass beads or weaving.  It is resistant to stretch and wear and is highly durable.  I’ll be working with these new threads a lot!
