This is the reason I wanted to learn the Japanese art of kumihimo.  I have a gazillion (exaggeration) of pendants that need a thicker, more interesting necklace to hang from.

My first piece started out as a project inspired by this glass pendant.  The silver and blues in this glass shell pendant are gorgeous and it just so happened that Lilla from John Bead had given me those two colours of rattail to start experimenting with.

The only tool I needed to make my necklace was a new Kumihimo Disk from the Dazzle-it collection.  I followed instructions to make a classic round braid.

Truth be told, this was my second braid.  My first one seemed wonky.  I think I made it too late at night and lost track of my knotting more than once during the making of the braid.

See the top braid.  Wonky.  Colours are out of place which means I didn’t follow the instructions.  The bottom braid is perfect.

I tied off my end with some silk thread.  This allows me to crop my ends and insert them with a little glue into a large end cap.  (I’ll show you that soon too!)

With the necklace now done I decided I didn’t like it with the glass pendantIf I lived next door to John Bead I could have popped by to get rattail in turquoise, lighter blue and gold...but that will have to wait.

It looked fantastic with this navy gem stone though!  Success!  Tomorrow I am going to redo something for the glass shell bead.
