My new pendant is dedicated to Fernando Dasilva. He reminded me that it is a lot more interesting to see what you can create with a jewelery component if you think that a component can do more than what it was originally designed to do.

You may have noticed that John Bead has a large selection of new end crimps.  They are special because they feature designs like hearts and leaves.  The thought of using them to finish the end of a necklace, where it won’t be seen, made me think twice about where to place them.

Then I watched Fernando demonstrating in the John Bead booth at the Craft and Hobby show.  He turned the end caps into pretty charms with pearls!

So I came home determined to make an end crimp a bigger part of a necklace design.

The new line of end crimps offers several sizes from .5 holes to 3.0.  I used rattail and waxed cotton cord in both small and larger sizes.

This was starting to look very interesting to me!  My end crimps were indeed the featured embellishment.

I used the 3mm brass clovers and 2mm antique silver leaf.

Then I went to my stash and pulled out one of my sample box collections from Preciosa.  The crystals in this collection are so beautiful!  I attached them with a jump ring and the pendant was ready to be strung on a simple rattail and natural cotton waxed cord.

If you need inspiration I know you would enjoy Fernando’s book.  It is full of wonderful samples and instructions!

  1. Dear Carmi,

Thanks for the compliments and for credit me on the different application of those fabulous crimp ends. IN the instant I ‘ve meet you, I could see in your eyes that you are a very genuine person, and very confident of your innate talents. Many thanks.
Beauty doesn’t exist by itself. You are a beautiful person.

Beijos (that means “kisses” in Portuguese)

    Fernando.
