Although I am working away on the square disk I didn’t want you to think I was done experimenting with the kumihimo circle disk. If you have been following the John Bead blog I am teaching myself the ancient art of Kumihimo and John Bead has everything I need to learn this new skill.
There are two kumihimo disks to work with. The circle and square plates can be used in so many ways. The disks come with a set of instructions and I am attempting to perfect the most popular braid for each. These circle braids are made on the same disk…using a thick and thin version of the embroidery thread.
I wonder if you knew that John Bead stocked embroidery thread? This is a really inexpensive way to create beautiful kumihimo braids when you are learning and experimenting as I am.
When you do make a great braid, or in this case two, you’ll want to finish it with a beautiful end cap. I have written about this technique in a blog post.
My double strand kumihimo necklace is showing off another pendant I made. My cord is soft and I am very pleased with the colours!
Here is a link to the embroidery threads!
Thanks again to Nancy who experimented with the embroidery thread for me!
I’ve really been enjoying reading your kumihimo posts. Could you include a little more information, like how many colors, what is the thickness of the thread, etc.? I would find that really helpful.
Thanks!
jan
Hi Jan, I usually link to the products I use and I know not everyone can go to their wholesale site. I’ll try to be more specific in the future when I have the time. But do google kumihimo…you’ll see so much information online!
Hi, These are really beautiful and enjoyable products.
