I made this colorful resin filled embellishment last week and I wanted to turn it into a bracelet.

These were the colours in my rattail collection that I thought would work best with my bezel.

I set up my square disk and my weight (see my last post) and got to work!

It is clear to me now that a flat braid can be very handy for several different design applications.  The ribbon clamps are easy to attach and my bracelet is instantly wearable.

In my case I choose to use a bezel that may not have found a home on a piece of jewelery otherwise.  If you would like to learn how I made this resin filled bezel there is a short post about it on Resin Crafts Blog.

Imagine how pretty this braid would have looked with this watch face.  John Bead has a great selection of watch faces too!  The possibilities are endless!

  1. I love this idea but had no idea you could do flat braids with kumi. Can you explain how to do that? Do you need a square disk or will a round one work? I’d really love to learn this! Thanks.

  2. The instructions are included with the disk…but if you google kumihimo, you’ll find all sorts of posts and videos on line. I also purchased several books through Amazon.

  3. Hi there, each of the disks from John Bead comes with a beautiful colour instruction sheet. I have been doing my own research too. I have googled and found all sorts of demos and videos online and I ordered some books through Amazon. These are all extremely helpful…but in the end, you just have to start by making a simple first braid.
